Walking With Giants

Walking with Giants is now the largest carnival in Central Milton Keynes which - in 2014 - attracted an audience of over 10,000.

The 2014 Parade

Last year, the participants lined up along Midsummer Boulevard enabling our visitors to see the Giants being brought to life. The event began with dance performances, acrobatic displays, street entertainment and Samba drumming in conjunction with the Milton Keynes Festival Fringe.

The parade was headed by Festive Road's new production - the Jurassic Jockeys - followed by schools, community groups, invited artists and Samba bands who all created an amazing spectacle along the streets of Central Milton Keynes. Children, staff and families from Stantonbury Campus, Slated Row, Brooklands Farm, Long Meadow and Stephenson Academy brought their wonderful creations to life and we were also joined by the Stantonbury Brownie pack, the Crazy Kidz After School Club, a local street dance group and the youngsters from Concrete Circus who joined us for the second time. All these children, families, teachers and group leaders provide the whole essence of our community parade.

We were encouraged along the way by the wonderful sounds of Samba music which came from Rhythms of the City and the Walking with Giants Samba Band who were joined by the Jubilee Drummers. Additionally, we welcomed the Hanslope Entertainment Group, Skull Duggery, Emma Garofalo, Mike Boyd and the Southbroom St James Academy Carnival Group, all of whom added colour, flair and a whole lot of vibrancy to create a truly wonderful event. An addition to the parade this year was Freda the Cash Cow who helped us collect donations from the audience. The money was shared between AgeUK Milton Keynes, Men in Sheds and Festive Road to help with future projects. Look out for Freda at more of our events and be ready to throw any spare coins at her!

Festive Road would like to thank all the participants, audience, supporters, funders and brilliant volunteers who made this event possible.
